Lake Ballard by Barbara Weeks

stitched and bound is a biennial exhibition showcasing the innovative range of current work being produced by Western Australian artists who challenge the usual concept of the ‘quilt’ medium.  Artists are encouraged to work outside the quilt format and push the boundaries of the medium focusing on making personal statements through the use of unconventional materials, ideas and techniques.  Pieces to be exhibited are selected on artistic merit, innovation within the quilt medium and standard of design and execution.  Typically, 30 – 50 works are chosen by three independent jurors for showing.

For the 2024/25 exhibition, 48 pieces have been selected from a total of 44
WA textile artists. Julie Haddrick, Susie Vickery and Maria Shell were the jurors.

stitched and bound 2024/25 opens at Midland Junction Arts Centre (MJAC), Perth on 18 May 2024 – 14 July 2024 and then will visit galleries in northern and southern WA until September 2025. Entrance to all galleries is free. An artist-in-residence programme will run in the Veranda Studio alongside the exhibition at MJAC. Visitors are welcome to pop into the Studio to chat to the textile artists working there.
