Photography for stitched and bound

A common weakness in photographs submitted for stitched and bound 2017 was lack of sharpness, in other words blur. The photo below of ‘this discovering 5’  by Ruth de Vos for stitched and bound 2017, photo by the artist, does not suffer this limitation. You might find the article Suggestions for Photography   useful, if you, like Ruth, choose to take your own photos for stitched and bound 2019. HELP is also at hand – before submitting your entry, to find out if your photographs fit the Conditions of Entry, email them to pat.forster@iinet.net.au or megcowey@me.com

Artist in attendance

The stitched and bound exhibition currently at Zig Zag Gallery, Kalamunda will have an artist in attendance this coming Thursday and Friday 11am – 1pm, and Saturday and Sunday 10am – 2pm, and the same the following week.

s and b official opening today

It was great to see a large gathering of quilt/textile people at Zig Zag Gallery this afternoon, including almost all ‘stitched and bound 2017’ exhibitors. ‘Quilts’ from the rafters, ‘quilts’ on the walls, and ‘quilts’ on plinths–all in  the name of the game we call art quilts. Thank you to everyone who came and helped make a joyful occasion. Photos will follow if the committee are sent some!!

Promotion photo chosen

An image of Hilary Arber’s stitched and bound entry, “Beach Drift’, has been chosen for the exhibition invitation, flyer and catalogue. The quilt features:

Hand dyed fabric, muslin, silk cocoon waste, commercial braid fused and stitched onto cotton wadding. Machine bobbin work, hand embroidery, couching, machine quilting.

The inspiration was:

Tides come and go, leaving touches of colour, telling an ocean’s adventure stories amongst washed weed and waste.

You will have to wait for the exhibition in order to see the full quilt!
