Visit Tiiu and Margery

Tiiu Stojanovic and Margery Goodall are the latest Artists in Residence in the CoLab Space within the Midland Junction Arts Centre. They are working on some very interesting projects and visitors can ‘have a go’ as well as view their artworks that are on display on the walls in the CoLab Space.

Neither Tiiu nor Margery have exhibits in the stitched and bound 2026 exhibition, but they are both very keen contemporary quilters and knowledgeable about the techniques used in the works on display throughout the Midland Junction Arts Centre.

Visit Mo and Linda

Linda Stokes and Mo Woltersdorf are currently the Artists in Residence in the CoLab Space within the Midland Junction Arts Centre. They are working on their own projects but would welcome visitors to view their artworks, and enjoy demonstrations on using an embellishing machine, free motion machine embroidery, mixed media & bookmaking.

Both Mo and Linda have exhibits on display in the stitched and bound 2026 exhibition (sneak peek of a close up of their work below). They would be happy to answer questions in regards to their exhibits, so check them out, along with all the other exhibits, before venturing into the CoLab Space.

Exhibition Officially Opened

Last Saturday, just after midday the artists and invited guests attended the opening event for stitched and bound 2026 at the Midland Junction Arts Centre (MJAC). The formal proceedings were held in a function room behind the galleries and attendees were treated to music by the Community Chamber Collective whilst mingling over drinks and nibbles. Jennifer Haynes, the Executive Director of Arts and Culture for MJAC, welcomed everyone and introduced the speaker Ruth De Vos, an award winning artist, a quilt-pattern designer, and a published picture book illustrator.

Afterwards the attendees moved through the galleries and corridors viewing the exhibits on the walls or on plinths. Some paused to closely study intricate details of the works, others leaned in to read the artist statements, with many chatting to others about their impressions and pieces they liked.

There was also a room to sit and watch a short video of a few of the artists talking about their pieces.

The exhibition runs until the end of June, so plenty of time to go and have a look at these amazing works.

Entries Close 31st Jan for stitched and bound

Only two days left to get your entries in for the stitched and bound exhibition. The entry form is only available from the WAQA website until midnight Saturday 31 January 2026. You can submit an entry form even if your piece is not quite finished as the jurors will use your photographs to select entries for showing at the exhibition. Remember you may enter up to two works for $35 (WAQA members) or $45 (non-members).

Midland Junction Arts Centre (MJAC) will host the 2026/27 stitched and bound exhibition from 1 May 2026 until 28 June 2026. This will be followed by a Tour of the exhibition to a number of regional galleries.

Esperance All Done!

Recently the stitched and bound exhibition travelled to its first stop Esperance.
Which had about 40 visitors on opening night! What a wonderful start to the regional
tour of the 24/25 exhibition. Some comments from that exhibition are below.
From here the exhibition will travel to the Goldfields then further afield. Looking
forward to the reaction there for this wonderful exhibition.

We had a wonderful night with approximately 40 in attendance, including
representatives from Esperance Bay Rotary club and Michael and Gillian Florisson
(sponsors).
The Cannery is honoured to have this exhibition in Esperance, art director
Marcia Leonard said not just because it features textile artists from all over
WA but especially because the selected works in two by Esperance artists.
“we were absolutely blown away with it all so of course when the proposal
came up to the board they said yes”
